Jonathan Rhys Williams

Solicitor & Founder

Award-winning employment lawyer Fluent Welsh speaker

Jonathan founded Cedar Wood Law to do one thing well: fight for the rights of working people. His route into law is distinctive, and that experience continues to shape the way he practises.

Before qualifying as a solicitor, Jonathan spent several years as a GMB workplace representative, supporting members through disciplinary hearings, grievances, restructures and workplace disputes. Seeing the impact of workplace injustice first-hand drove him to pursue a legal career.

He brings to his practice both legal expertise and a grounded understanding of what it feels like to face a dispute at work. Jonathan acts for private clients and trade union members across a broad range of employment matters.

He is an award-winning lawyer, having been named Cardiff and District Law Society's Junior Lawyer of the Year in 2020.

Beyond The Law

Public-interest work

Jonathan has served on the Welsh Government's Technical Advisory Group for its Basic Income pilot, is a trustee of the Basic Income Research Group and volunteers through pro bono clinics that support people who might otherwise go without legal advice.
