Cedar Wood Law is committed to transparency in the way we charge for employment law work.

Standard hourly rate

£250 + VAT

£300 inclusive of VAT at 20%

Time is recorded in six-minute units and includes calls, emails, drafting, meetings, research and hearing preparation.

How costs are explained and managed

Hourly-rate work

The primary charging model is hourly-rate billing, with the basis and estimates confirmed in the retainer letter.

Fixed-fee work when suitable

Where the work allows it, a fixed fee may be agreed for a specific piece of work and confirmed in writing.

Disbursements agreed in advance

Third-party costs such as counsel or expert fees are discussed with you before they are incurred.

No conditional fees

Cedar Wood Law does not offer conditional fee arrangements for employment law matters.

Indicative Tribunal Fees

Typical fee ranges for unfair and wrongful dismissal work

Simple cases

£3,000 to £10,000 + VAT

Usually straightforward unfair or wrongful dismissal matters, often listed for a one-day hearing and often concluded within around six months.

More complex cases

£10,000 to £20,000 + VAT

Typically involves disputed facts, multiple witnesses or a hearing listed for two or more days, often over nine to twelve months.

Complex cases

From £20,000 + VAT

Usually includes discrimination or whistleblowing issues, longer hearings, preliminary stages, heavy documentation or expert evidence.

These figures are indicative only, are not fixed fees or caps, and do not include disbursements such as barrister's fees.

Funding

Private, union-funded and insurance-backed work

We act for privately paying clients, clients referred by trade unions and clients with legal expenses insurance. If you think you may have LEI cover, let us know as early as possible so we can help assess it.
